DC Structures

DC Structures

Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, DC Structures was founded in 2000 and since then, has built more than 200 post and beam homes.

The company specializes in barn home kits, offering customers just about everything they need to assemble their barndominium.

Post and Beam Construction Benefits

Post and beam construction isn’t a new concept, and it’s a great alternative to traditional stick-built structures.

The many benefits of post and beam construction include:

  • Framed with high-grade timbers for durability and strength
  • Built on a monolithic concrete foundation
  • Allows for large expansive areas and large windows
  • High vaulted ceilings for a larger living space
  • Extra fire resistance

DC Structures uses only high-grade timber for their structures, and they’re untreated to withstand the test of time.

Why Choose DC Structures Barn Home Kits?

DC Structures has a reputation for offering some of the best post and beam building kits in America. Their impressive portfolio of projects has helped them become one of the leading Oklahoma barndominium builders and a top builder for post and beam structures in other states.

If reputation and experience aren’t enough to set DC Structures apart from the competition, here are some other reasons:

#1 - Customizable Kits

The kits from DC Structures are highly customizable, allowing you to tweak the design to meet your needs. Upgrades and options are available, and you can add or remove features in most cases.

For a truly custom structure, you can work with their partner company: DC Builders.

#2 - Quality Materials

The company’s barn home kits feature framing made from select-grade Douglas fir and other woods sourced from the Pacific Northwest. This allows their structures to have vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. It creates an open layout with a rustic feel that gives the barndo a unique look and adds value to the property.

Barn homes also include:

  • Cedar board and batten siding
  • Premium Anderson Windows

#3 - Kit Options and Upgrades

DC Structures offers a variety of options and upgrades, including:

  • Raising the height of the building
  • Removing posts to make the interior space larger
  • Expanding the size of your barn home beyond the largest standard floor plan
  • Add doors and windows

#4 - Streamlined Build Process

DC Structures makes it as easy as possible to bring your dream structure to life.

Their project coordinators will walk you through the process. Once the design process is complete and an order is placed, the company’s craftsmen will pre-build the wood materials for the kit in their climate controlled facility in Oregon.

What Types of Kits Do They Offer?

From Event Barns To Residential Homes, DC Structures Can Customzie Any Kit

Buyers have a variety of kits to choose from, whether they’re looking to add a hobby building to their lot or build a barn home.

Their kit options include:

  • Barns
  • Barn homes
  • Arenas
  • Workshops
  • Garages

What Do Their Kits Not Include?

The kits from DC Structures include most of what you need for building your barndominium, but there are a few things that you will need to purchase on your own.

Here’s what’s not included with your kit:

  • Concrete
  • Roofing material
  • Nails
  • Overhead doors
  • Plumbing fixtures
  • Electrical fixtures

DC Structures Design Build Process

DC Structures offers a simplified process ordering for their barn home kits. Here’s how the process works:

Choose and Customize a Kit

The first step is to find a kit that you like, and then personalize it with their options. A project coordinator at DC Structures will work with you to ensure that you find the right kit and customization options that meet your needs.

The coordinator will go over the proposal again before taking your deposit to make sure that your package is accurate.

Once they receive your deposit, they will get to work setting a deadline for shipping the kit.

Design Finalization and Stamped Plans

Your design will be ready for review a few weeks after placing a deposit. It will take about three weeks to receive your stamped plans.

The company's standard packages are pre-engineered to meet most county and state requirements. If needed, they will provide state specific wet stamps, but this comes at an additional cost.

Schedule a Delivery Date and Construction Prep

A final invoice will be sent one month before the expected ship date. The package will be finished three weeks prior to this, which will give you time to review plans with your contractor.

After your kit is delivered, DC Structures will stay in touch until the project is completed to help with any problems that may arise.

Kits can be delivered as quickly as eight weeks after making the initial deposit. However, the company recommends placing an order at least six months in advance of construction if you’re planning to build a barn home. This will provide ample time for collaborative design, local permitting and engineering.

What About Building the Structure?

DC Structures provides designs and materials for post and beam structures, which will be constructed by local builders. They do not offer building services, but they do have a network of contractors with the experience and expertise to assemble their buildings.

DC Builders, the company’s construction partner, may be able to provide a quote. The company only takes on a limited number of projects, so there is no guarantee that they can provide a quote or take on your project.
