Harvest Moon launched with the initiative of preserving timber frame barns. Unfortunately, every year, more historic timber frame barns are lost or destroyed. The timber frame barn kits from Harvest Moon help keep this barn style alive while adding function and value to a property.
The company is headquartered in Morris, CT and maintains a BBB rating of A+.
Harvest Moon Timber Frame Barndo Styles
Harvest Moon offers a variety of barn style kits.
Gambrel Barn Kits

Harvest Moon’s gambrel barn comes in a wide range of depths and lengths to meet your needs. Smaller sizes are great for use as garden sheds or smoke houses, while larger sizes are great for homes, studios, guest houses, accessory buildings and more.
The gambrel style offers the most interior space. These barns have symmetrical roof lines to maximize space. The upper roof is flat to allow for more headroom, while the lower roof allows you the option for a functional second story. Gambrel barns can be one or two floors.
Harvest Moon’s Gambrel barns come with the following options:
- Depths of 8’-42’
- Lengths of 10’-120’
Monitor Barn Plans

Monitor barns have a taller center with wings on each side. The taller center aisle allows you to add windows for more natural light and to improve ventilation.
The monitor style is a classic choice for agricultural applications and are preferred for raising and caring for livestock.
Like gambrel barns, monitor barns can be either one or two stories. The upper level can be transformed into an office or used for other purposes. These barns can also be used as a home or for a simple tool shed.
The company’s monitor barns come with the following options:
- Depths of 12’-24’ at the center and 6’-20’ along the side wings
- Lengths of 12’-120’ or more
Salt Box Barn

The salt box style features a second-story or loft at the front of the building and a single-story at the rear of the structure. This style of barn was created in colonial times to avoid taxation on two-story homes.
Salt box barns can be one story or two stories. They can have cathedral ceilings, lofts or a functional second floor.
The company’s salt box barn can be used as a home, horse barn, garage, studio or, on a smaller scale, a firewood shelter, fort, pool cabana or a simple garden shed.
Harvest Moon’s salt box barn plans offer the following options:
- Depths of 4’-42’
- Lengths of 8’-120’ or more
Broken Back Salt Box Barn

The broken back salt box style is a play off the salt box barn style. This style has a symmetrical barn with a shed attached. However, the primary barn has a steeper roof than the attached shed area. It’s this design that gives the barn a broken back look.
This style offers a range of options. You can set up a cathedral ceiling, a functional second floor, a loft and more. Pull-down stairs or a ladder can provide easy access to the second level.
The Broken Back Salt Box style offers the following:
- Depths of 12’-48’ for the main barn and 6’-20’ for the shed
- Lengths of 12’-120’
On a smaller scale, this barn style can be used as a chicken coop, tool shed or smoke house. On a larger scale, it can be used for agricultural purposes, homes, garages, workshops and more.
Carriage House Kits

Carriage houses were originally designed to house carriages and their tack. They were traditionally built facing roadways and near stables.
While we no longer use horse-drawn carriages (not usually), carriage house barns are still in use. This popular barn style can be used as a guest home, workshop, retail center, restaurant or storage.
You can even use a carriage house kit to build your home.
The company’s carriage house kits come in the following options:
- Depths of 4’-42’
- Lengths of 8’-120’
Colonial Barn Kits

Colonial barns are beautifully simple, with a symmetrical roof line and uniform height both inside and outside the barn.
The colonial barn kits from Harvest Moon can be either one or two stories, and they offer the following options:
- Depths of 12’-48’ for the main barn and 6’-20’ for the shed
- Lengths of 12’-120’
